Are you looking for someone to speak on cybersecurity?
Hi, my name is Tony Asher and I speak on cybersecurity.
I can speak on the various topics of information security and cybersecurity, including all the niches and pillars that make up a security framework. I’ve got my finger on the pulse of security news, vulnerabilities, and exploits and I can translate what it means to Minnesota companies.
I’m currently offering to speak for free to increase my network and visibility. Does this sound like a good fit for you?
A little about me.
I’ve been in security for about twenty years (and loved every minute of it)! I’ve worked for federal, defense, banking, finance, healthcare, and retail organizations. I’ve done everything from crawling under desks to speaking in the board room. I lead the security program for a local Minnesota company called Piper Jaffray. And most recently was the BISO (business information security officer) for Target stores. I hold several technology certifications including Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP), and Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH).
I’ve got a beautiful family. In my spare time, I like to exercise, and explore the north woods with my white lab named Lucy, and work on my old farm homestead property. (We recently discovered a postcard from 1915!)
What about you?
What are you looking for as far as an event and audience? Would you like to be entertained or educated about a specific topic? Would you like me to speak to engineers or executives?
If you’d like to discuss your opportunity schedule a call below.
Speaking History
I enjoy the opportunity to speak, it’s fun and scary at the same time. It’s a good reminder to me how concerned I am about my self appearance (and let go!).
I discovered I liked speaking in high school during speech class. I liked pushing into the fear I had of being in front of people. I’m an introvert by nature. Speaking really allows me to break out of my shell and be uncomfortable. I believe we grow when we’re uncomfortable. Back then I spoke about the benefits of Gortex fabric. I also got to speak in college a few times (I think because I was the only one willing!)
I like to speak to small and medium crowds up to about three hundred people.
Over the last couple of years, I’ve spoken to groups of about three hundred people about seven times. Some of these groups were highly educated and full of very technical people.
I also had the opportunity to speak to a group of board members on cybersecurity. I was really surprised and encouraged how hungry they were to learn more about the topic. They had a lot of great questions which made the speaking engagement more ‘dynamic’. I like interaction like that.
Topics
I can speak on almost anything within cybersecurity, but sometimes I’m not the BEST speaker for the topic. I’ve been blessed to get to know a large number of cybersecurity professionals here in Minnesota, and sometimes I can connect people to a speaker that will do an even better job.
Recent topics that are getting a lot of traction are:
- Secure containers (Docker and Kubernetes)
- Secure Application Development / How to improve security process around internally developed applications.
- Security Information and Event Management / Logging and Correlation
- Cybersecurity Incident Handling and Response
- Non-biased outside security perspective and opinion on the security program.
- Dark Web
- BitCoin & BlockChain
- NIST Cybersecurity Framework
Do any of those topics sound interesting to you?
Speaking Format
I like to keep it simple. For me, that means I work with someone like you to identify the purpose and the audience. We work to identify what a ‘win’ looks like. Oftentimes there is no specific goal, just good content. Sometimes there is almost a ‘training’ agenda to get the audience to know or understand something.
From there I build out a simple multipoint framework. I like keeping it under three points.
I usually start with a personal story that’s relative to the topic, then transition to introducing myself.
After that, I pitch what I’m talking about and the why. It’s really important right here when I have their attention, to clearly articulate the ‘why’. It needs to make sense.
I cover the topic by bringing in visual ads (I don’t write everything I”m saying on the slides). Through the use of images, I solidify the story I’m telling. I add personal stories. I speak slowly and make eye contact. And most of all I keep it positive!
My goal is to leave the audience happier, better educated, and more encouraged than before! If I can accomplish that it makes my week. I love it.
Next Steps
Reach out and call me at 952.228.6173 or schedule a call and let’s talk about what you’re planning. I’d really enjoy the opportunity to serve you while I grow my network and visibility. If I”m not the right fit, we’ll figure that out and I’ll try to connect you to some other speakers if I can.
Either way, have a GREAT day and stay secure!
